Reading or hearing about ‘Viper’  word will bring our mind into one of the best memory brand, and that is Patriot. As you know, patriot labeled the high end series memory as Viper series, which is equipped with some special feature like heat spreader and high voltage operation capability.

Nowadays, we got one of Viper series DDR3 where Patriot labeled this memory as PC 14800, the complete label is PVS32G 1866LLK dual channel kit with total capacity of 2GB.

The Package

As usual, as for the introduction let’s take a look at the package first. If you had read our review about viper triple channel series before, you will see the similar box - this because Patriot using the same package style. The different is just on the front side picture, the basic color is still the same (black). Look like this memory not supported XMP, this can see by the box where there is no XMP logo there.

Closer Look

Okay, next let’s spend a little bit time to take a look at the memory modules. As we have said before, this memory is come as dual channel kit where the total capacity is 2GB. Heat spreader color is different with the triple channel series, if you rememmber the triple channel series is using blue color, while this dual channel series is using silver color. The matrial is still the same (copper).

The amount of chips is eight at each modules and installed as single side mode, again this is the same method as triple channel series. One of the heat spreader is contacted directly with the PCB’s.

LLK mean that this memory is ready to go with ultra low latency at least that is what patriot have says on the box of this memory, but we still need to proove it later. At the rating speed of 1866 MHz, Patriot recommended that we set this memory at 8 – 8 – 8 – 24 mode using 1.9 volt DIMM voltage. This memory is the highest DDR3 rating at our labs so far.
